Catch-all Email

Catchall emails are the ultimate tool for managing multiple email addresses and optimizing your online shopping experience. In this guide, we’ll delve into the world of catchall emails, explaining what they are, how they work, and how to set them up for various purposes.

What Are Catchall Emails?

Catchall emails allow you to create an unlimited number of email addresses that all forward to a single master email inbox. They are particularly useful for purchasing multiple items from stores that impose restrictions on the number of shoes or items per profile.

Ideal Usage Scenarios

Catchall emails are highly effective on platforms like Footlocker, Adidas, and were previously the go-to choice for Yeezy Supply releases. However, they are not recommended for use on Shopify websites, as they are likely to result in canceled purchases.

Setting Up Catchall Emails: Namecheap vs. Google Domains

Option 1: Namecheap (Cost-Effective)

First, let’s explore Namecheap (https://www.namecheap.com/). This website grants you access to a wide range of domain extensions, including .com, .edu, .net, and more. Setting up Namecheap involves selecting your desired domain and completing the purchase, with prices varying—.com domains tend to be the priciest. On the other hand, domains like .xyz are more budget-friendly, typically costing only a few USD. It’s worth noting that their ability to pass ‘fraud tests’ may be somewhat inferior when compared to Google Domains.

  • Visit Namecheap and select a domain of your choice (e.g., .com, .net, .edu). Prices vary, with .com domains being the most expensive, while options like .xyz are more budget-friendly.
  • During the setup process, you’ll specify the master email to which all catchall emails will forward.
  • Namecheap offers straightforward configuration, enabling you to create catchall emails like Cam@botpedia.xyz, Dread@botpedia.xyz, and Collins@botpedia.xyz.

The setup process on Namecheap is straightforward. You begin by specifying the master email to which all emails will be forwarded, and they guide you through the entire configuration. This simplicity allows you to use virtually any email address you desire. For instance, if your Namecheap domain is Botpedia.xyz, you can effortlessly create emails like Cam@botpedia.xyz, Dread@botpedia.xyz, SneakerReseller@botpedia.xyz. In terms of cost-effectiveness, Namecheap domains represent the more economical choice of the two options available for catchalls.

Option 2: Google Domains (Ultimate Flexibility)

The second option is to set up a Google Domain. Google Domains provides the capability to create a domain of your choice with a .com extension for $12. To initiate the setup process, visit https://domains.google/ and search for your desired domain. For instance, you might opt to purchase the domain OffWhiteSneakers.com. Following the purchase, it will generate a Google profile for you, separate from your personal Google account. Let’s say your new email is JohnDoe@OffWhiteSneakers.com; this becomes your primary domain email, which you can fully utilize.

But there’s more to it—you can customize the domain to forward anything with that extension to your primary Gmail inbox. This means email addresses like NotaCatchall@OffWhiteSneakers.com, NumbaOneReseller@OffWhiteSneakers.com, and virtually any prefix before the @OffWhiteSneakers.com can be employed. To correctly configure this, navigate to your new Google Domains profile and locate the ‘Admin’ button within the ‘All Apps’ section (you may need to access the ‘More’ section). Proceed to ‘Apps,’ then ‘Gsuite,’ and select ‘Gmail.’ Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on ‘Advanced Settings,’ then find the ‘Routing’ Section and click ‘Configure.’ A dialogue box will appear.

To set up this configuration correctly, follow these steps:

  1. Access your new Google Domains profile and click on the “All Apps” icon (you may need to navigate to the “More” section).
  2. Look for the “Admin” button within this section.
  3. Go to “Apps,” then “Gsuite,” and finally “Gmail.”
  4. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click “Advanced Settings.”
  5. Locate the “Routing” section and click “Configure” under it; a dialog box will appear.
  6. In the first line under routing, you can name this configuration, for instance, “Catchall” or “My Catchall.”
  7. In the ‘Messages to Affect’ box, check “Inbound” and “Internal Receiving.”
  8. Scroll down to ‘Envelope Recipient’ and select “Replace Recipient.” This will open a text field where you can input your master email, e.g., JohnDoe@gmail.com.
  9. Finally, scroll to the bottom of the page, and under ‘Account types to affect,’ unselect ‘Users’ and choose ‘Unrecognized/Catchall’ as the only option selected in this section.

With these steps, your Google Domain will be configured to accept any prefix with your catchall domain at the end, making it a versatile tool for managing a variety of email addresses. For more advanced management, consider utilizing AYCD’s tools.
